Geotechnical Observations (GeO) has been delivering structural and geotechnical monitoring solutions for 15 years. The company has worked on many high profile construction projects such as Heathrow Terminals 2 & 5, the new Wembley Stadium and Crossrail. GeO offer geotechnical knowledge and instrumentation know-how, which combine to enhance our client’s understanding of their projects.

Geotechnical Observations is the Exclusive Distributor of ShapeAccelArray (SAA) in the UK and Ireland. Geotechnical Observations also sell SAA on behalf of Measurand in Qatar and United Arab Emirates.

SAA are manufactured by Measurand Inc. of Fredericton, Canada.

ShapeAccelArray (SAA) is a displacement and vibration monitoring system and it arguably the most exciting recent development in instrumentation and monitoring. An SAA is a string of rigid segments separated by joints that can move in any direction but cannot twist. MEMS gravity sensors measure tilt in two directions. Processors transform the position (e.g. X,Y & Z) of each sensor to produce shape and change of shape. Each SAA comes wrapped around a drum and is then placed into a small (27mm ID) uPVC tube. There is no joining of individual sensors to be done in the field, which makes the installation of Shape Arrays exceptionally quick. Displacements can be recorded onto a datalogger, directly onto a computer using a USB interface or onto an Android mobile phone using an SAA Field Power Unit. Vibration data can calso be gathered using a computer.

GeoMax is a partnership between Geotechnical Observations and the Asian based data management and construction consultancy Maxwell Geosystems.

This is a knowledge based partnership whereby GeO undertake the supply, installation, set up and reading of geotechnical and structural instrumentation, Maxwell manage the data using their industry leading web-based presentation software and both companies provide engineering support from their experienced geotechnical teams. This partnership complements GeO's existing relationships with Measurand Inc of Canada for ShapeAccelArrays and Sisgeo of Italy for other geotechnical and structural instrumentation.

The JV is led by Dr Andrew Ridley and Dr Angus Maxwell who together bring almost 50 years of experience in construction monitoring and will initially operate out of Geotechnical Observations’ office in Weybridge.

Sisgeo is the Italian manufacturer of geotechnical and structural instrumentation based near Milan.

Sisgeo's innovative approach to equipment development is illustrated by their Omnialog datalogger, their railway deformation system and their digital liquid levelling system, all of which Geotechnical Observations can now bring to the UK. In addition Sisgeo manufactures a wide range of standard instrumentation such as inclinometers, extensometers, piezometers, strain gauges and load cells, all of which can now be purchased through Geotechnical Observations.
