Heathrow Terminal 5

Instrumentation (GeO flushable piezometers and in-situ suction probes)

Status: Completed

Geotechnical Observations has monitored deep excavations for major construction projects in the UK . For example GeO installed 30 of our flushable piezometers for monitoring negative pore water pressures in steep London clay slopes. The excavations were used to begin the tunnelling operations required to extend the Piccadilly Line and the Heathrow Express railways to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport in London .

The GeO piezometers were data logged at hourly intervals and the results were reported directly to the client via email.

GeO flushable piezometers were particularly appropriate for this job because they are able to measure positive and negative pore water pressures with a very fast response time. Moreover with continuous earthmoving being carried out, individual piezometers could be removed and replaced at very short notice, avoiding damage and providing an economical monitoring solution.
