Embankments - Coalpit Heath, Nr. Bristol, UK.Instrumentation (installation, monitoring and reporting)Status: CompletedGeotechnical Observations recently completed a 15 month programme of monitoring for a 20m high embankment on the Great Western route near to Bristol. Slope deformations were monitored using vertically orientated inclinometer tubes supplemented with slip indicators, whilst track-bed deformations were investigated using horizontally orientated inclinometer tubes passing through the embankment approximately 2m below the track (see photograph). Track levels were also recorded using a digital precise level. Pore water pressures (positive and negative) were measured using GeO modular piezometers with Type I filters to a depth of 5m, Type II filters at intermediate depths and Type III filters from 8m to 17m. Geotechnical Observations has extensive experience of monitoring embankments. Our UK clients include Network Rail, London Underground, British Waterways and Thames Water. |
