The Suction ProbeDirect observations of suction can be made using the suction probe. The suction probe is a product of ten years intensive research and development within the Soil Mechanics Section at Imperial College . It is unique in its ability to make direct measurements over a wide range of soil suctions (ie. up to 1500 kPa) and has been used extensively in both laboratory and field applications for a variety of clients and on a range of soil types. The suction probe is widely acknowledged as a milestone in the measurement of soil suction and is actively contributing to a better understanding of the influence of suction on soil behaviour. Measurements can be made in a borehole at depths between 0 and 5m or on samples after they have been recovered from the ground. |
